Mrs.
Karli Southgate-Ottesen was both the first student of Freedom
TaeKwon-Do and our first student to be promoted through the ranks
to First Degree Black Belt, through second and third, and promises
to be Freedom TaeKwon-Do’s first Fourth Degree Black Belt. As
a dedicated instructor, she has attended many International Instructors
Courses around the world, and is a veteran of both the Master
Blake Seminar Series as well as the Mexico Training Camps and
has trained with some of the world’s best athletes and
coaches.
As Freedom TaeKwon-Do’s premier athlete,
Ms. Southgate-Ottesen has competed in numerous competitions at
the Provincial, Western, Canadian and International levels. Entering
her first international event as a coloured belt, she stunned
everyone and earned a Silver Medal at the 2000 Mazatlan Open
International Championships; competing in the Black Belt division! As
a new Black Belt, she earned a Silver Medal at the 2002 Canadian
National Championships and has consistently placed in the top
three at almost every competition since. In 2007 Mrs Southgate-Ottesen
earned a Gold Medal at the Canadian National Championships, qualifying
her to compete in women’s sparring at the 2007 ITF World
Championships in Quebec City, Quebec.
With an extensive background in Physical Training,
Mrs. Southgate-Ottesen has earned a diploma in Human Kinesiology,
is both a certified Aerobics Instructor and Nutritional Specialist,
and has achieved Level 2 certification in the National Coaching
Certification Program. An extremely talented instructor,
she dedicates much of her time to working with our youngest students. As
the Head Instructor, Mrs. Southgate-Ottesen designed and continues
to develop the curriculum and training program for our Little
Eagles Program.
A proud First Nations Canadian, Mrs. Southgate-Ottesen
is a role model for many of our young children, and tries to
instil pride, courage and strength in all of her students. Demonstrating
incredible courage, strength, determination, and indomitable
spirit, she competed at the World Championships even with a badly
damaged knee that required reconstructive surgery; demonstrating
that with discipline, focus and support, you can accomplish anything
you set your mind to!
A compassionate ear, a strong shoulder and a
desire to help others truly make her a much loved and respected
instructor, friend and member of our instructional team! |
